On January 14, 2024 we were honored to host Sarah Woodbury, renowned author of series of books set in Wales’ rich history in a Zoom Presentation which 30 people attended. Her books include the series: After Cilmeri, the Gareth & Gwen Medieval Mysteries, The Last Pendragon saga, The Lion of Wales, and her newest one, The Welsh Guard Mysteries. The Zoom presentation attracted 30 viewers from across the USA and Canada.
Sarah has some Welsh ancestors (Morgans for one) and went to Wales during college and remembers it as a wonderful time. She started writing in 2006 (that first book remains hidden in her computer as a first attempt) and went back to Wales with husband in 2012 and goes twice a year every year for research and experiences.
You may already subscribe to her newsletter, as I do, which includes a video she films in Wales telling the history of a certain place, a building, a hill-top fort or a castle. Sign up here: https://www.sarahwoodbury.com/sign-up-for-my-newsletter/
One of her popular book series “After Clemeri”, describes an alternate history of Wales (in which Llewelyn is rescued and does not die) and some time travel. All are based in historical facts, plus some embellishments. They are very popular selling more than 1M copies.
Sarah’s presentation on Zoom covered the history of Wales in several slides: the invasion by the Romans, the Normans, and the Vikings and the affect on Brian as a whole. The encircling of Wales with a ring of castles by England’s King Edward 1 was also covered as well as the building of fortifications and outposts by Welsh princes. Her books cover several of these time periods starting in the “Dark Ages” and into the 1300’s.
