Researching our Welsh roots, answering questions, helping each other with our brick walls. Very informal and fun. Sometimes a guest speaker will give a presentation on a special topic.

Special Event Today features a presentation on "AncestryDNA Results" by Nikki Hall.

Nikki Hall has been interested in genetics since she was 10 years old, leading her to pursue a career in biology. She works for a small biotech lab in Rochester. She has also been interested in genealogy since she was 16, and benefitted from having her great-grandmother in her life until she was 21.

Those two interests combined when she took an AncestryDNA test in 2017. From knowing nothing about genetic genealogy to quickly learning all she could, Nikki made it her goal to place each of her DNA matches into her tree. She quickly learned new skills that would allow her to identify the birth parents of a cousin.

She now volunteers as a Search Angel, helping those looking for birth family using DNA tests. Nikki has given several presentations on genetic genealogy for beginners and advanced users. She specializes in clustering DNA matches in order to identify common ancestors.

• IN PERSON opportunities, when offered usually begin at 11:00 AM and end at 4:30 PM, but attendees are free to come for just part of the day. Or just ZOOM in from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM ET.
